I guess that’s why he made so many mistakes in this version of I’m Buzzed

No one wrote it out for him.

Congrats for being another internet-asshole. Makes me wonder, were you BORN an asshole or did you wake up one day and decide to just be one?

I´m with Luke, understanding harmony and being able to read music is essential in becoming a ´complete´ musician. Being able to read music does not necessarily mean that you´ll have to be able to sight-read everything on the spot, but you should be able to read music, IMO.

Seriously? Wow.

I read music (and wish my reading skills were better), not to mention write (and have arranged for big bands etc). But I don’t think reading is even the beginning of being the kind of decent musician I would like to be. I just thought it was funny he would make that kind of statement towards musical literacy and then take such little care in learning what is actually a beautiful set of chords and harmonic movement written by his friend. I doubt the joke is lost on him and I’m sure he’s done a better job since the above. Still, I’d bet you 50 bucks he’d tell you his choices above aren’t about him being a better musician.

The precursor to this story – I was playing with a great drummer the other day (I brought Buzzed in for fun) and half way through the C section he stops. “No no no! That melody makes no sense! That note (indicates a G#) should be a half step lower!” I try to argue with him but to no avail. I play it a half step lower and it clangs like a wrong note. Anyway, fast forward, I send him the Landau clip from Germany showing the G#. He writes back, embarrassed, that his knowledge of the song is based on Lukather’s above.

I dig his attitude as well. He’s a great player and a good presence in the industry. I was just ragging on his learning of buzzed.

Hello everyone. Long time no groove. I have been very busy and had a life changing year. Divorce, new baby, sick and dying close friends, my Mom died and I am dealing with a ton of shit. REAL life shit.
By the way I don’t care if you read music or not. Much like learning a foreign language. It helps ALOT but won’t change the way you play at all.

I must apologize to MO PO . Yes I probably played Mikes song wrong. He showed it to me THAT way many years ago when we did a charity gig together. LOVE the tune. Sorry. I don’t think HE plays it the same way twice. haha By the way that was ONE clip. I played it many times..
That WAS 5 years ago and I was still boozin pretty good so I fucked up. I didn’t bother to watch the clip as I NEVER watch clips of me. Particularly old ones when I was fucked up. My shrinks orders. It really crippled me to read some of the hate towards me during this era. I am very embarassed.
Everyone is a critic. me too sometimes but much less these days. Who am I to say what is good or bad? It is all up to the individual. Mike is a dear old friend since we were 12 years old and I don’t think anyone loves and respects him more that I do! Doesn’t get any better than Mike Landau to me and I say it all the time. I am way too old to care if I have the biggest dick in the forrest. A young mans game. There are MANY better than me and I love it. I am inspired by it. So who cares anyway? There is plenty of room for us all in this big world. I have been very fortunate and blessed to have a 35 year career in music and have done some really cool things and some shit too. Like everyone else who has had more than 5 minutes in and lived to tell.
Funny thing about the written word. It never really conveys the true vibe. My interviews, most of the time. are done tongue in cheek ya know. I dont take myself so seriously. How could I? I have eyes and ears and can see and hear my own flaws. I was JAMMING. There are many loose horrible drunken jams on the internet. A bummer and reminder that everyone is crawling up your ass these days and because of THAT.. you will see a lot less impromptu jamming as everyone knows they are being filmed for the youtube police to rip to shreds. A pussy’s way out with all these fake names and all. Whatever.. I do what I do and if you like it great. If not there is plenty out there to groove on. Everyone has a right to their feelings. I don’t like everything I hear but I don’t rip people for it anymore. I have been an asshole and I apologize here in public if I have ever been one. I was wrong and I am human. I will try and learn from that and am just trying to be the best me I can be for today and forget the past as it is done and over with, can’t change it if I wanted to. Wish I could. haha
Thanks for the kind words in here though. That IS my new pedal board and no I will leave it here for travel to Japan and use in the the USA. It is really cool and I love it. My old rig is in europe. Freight is expensive. I start my new solo tour today and I am off to europe. New record “Alls well that Ends well” is out their now and doing really well. Out on iTunes Nov 2nd in the USA-Canada and physical in Jan if anyone cares. If not steal it, everyone else does. LOL
OK, enough BS self promo
Hope everyone is well and I will check in when I can.

Peace

LUKE just GETS IT. I love his attitude. Such a great vibe from him.
Even if he wasn’t such a terrifying player, he’d still be awesome.

Hey Luke, this is a message for you, but I’ll post this in the public, because it’s fun for other forum users to read.
I had the honor to supply Mike two Fender Amplifiers with flightcases for his European tour. (…)
So I was very lucky I had a short day with him. After the concert we were all together in the pub, and there was a video of you with Rittenour at the Coconut Grove.
At one point Andy Hess and Gary Novak had a little laugh (in a good way) at the typical 80’s look you both had. (With the big hair) Mike took it really for you, and told them that he fully respects you, and you are a very good friend of his.
He said you on that video, really did some awesome good playing.
I found it really fun to see how he appreciates what you do. Mike’s a real friend for life, isn’t he?
Just wanted to share this with you.

The 80’s were NOT kind style wise. LOL I think I was trying to hard there. hahaha I love Rit and we have done some fun stuff over the years, including his newest 6 string theory record that has some wicked guitar playing in ALL styles from a ton of giant players.. check it out if ya get a chance

Mike Landau.. well as I said before. I does NOT get better than Mike. A dear old pal and I am thankful he likes what I do too. We have always had a blast playing together and have talked of doing something for real again for years. We played in a ton of bands in school, well since we met in like ’71 or something crazy like that.
He made me a better player just being around him. Funny as fuck too. We have gotten into some DEEP trouble together over the years. haha I love him dearly on all levels!

Off to the first gig on my euro tour in Belgium
I shall check in time to time and thanks for the many kind words and no hard feeling MO po. haha I can dig it.
peace
Luke
